Services

Our organization provides services to those who are in a shelter, unsheltered, or living in a place not meant for human habitation, such as a car, park, or abandoned building.

CHS is a member of the Detroit Continuum of Care (CoC), which is a network of local nonprofits and government agencies that work collectively to address Detroit’s homeless issues. To learn more about the CoC, click here.

Advocacy

We advocate for individuals – ensuring that they know and understand their rights. We help people receive the services they need in an appropriate and empowering manner. Whatever the people need, we either provide it directly or refer them to trusted partners who we know will follow through.

Engagement, Assesment, & Navigation

CHS serves as the frontrunner. Our staff meet with people living on the street or in emergency shelters throughout the city to assess their needs, and get them on the path to housing. CHS has worked in this capacity since 2015.

Housing & Support

Through our Permanent Housing programs, our dedicated case managers assess people’s needs and create a person-centered plan or service, conduct a housing search, provide landlord negotiation, transportation, and ongoing financial assistance coupled with supportive services, until they are able to live independently

Simon House

CHS has owned and managed an 11-unit affordable housing complex in Northwest Detroit since 2018.

For each household, the ultimate goals are empowerment and independence.
